Moving to the album, there's no animation or anything to criticize there, but it's still handled poorly. There's some generic shots they reuse a fair few times for how short the "concert" is, and the transitions between each song are really awkward.įor the most part, I couldn't really get into things as the animation didn't make it even somewhat believable that any of the characters on screen were actually playing their instruments, but it also kind of felt like different animators handled d2b's segment, as several things they animated for Kashiwara's guitar playing surprised me for being oddly specific (pick slides and kill-switch usage), and even something like bending that they animated for her didn't seem to be animated anywhere else that I noticed. There's several instances where it zooms out to a full band view in the middle of a song and none of the band members are even moving. The animation quality of the OVA is pretty poor, I've seen superbowl halftime "performers" do a better job of pretending to play an instrument than the animation for these characters did. Aside from that though, there's enough downsides to offset it to me. Starting off with the positive, and it's an important one, the music is really good, this applies to both the concert and the album, which has some songs not in the concert.
